A bigger, better Big Data conference
Following the success of the inaugural event in 2013, IVORY were again tasked to design and deliver Vertica’s 2014 Big Data Conference. The first event had involved customer testimonials and presentations from Vertica, but this year we aimed to expand and improve it.
Our responsibilities included selecting and securing the conference venue and building a group of partners and sponsors to support the event. We then created an event website with online registration and payment systems, and designed an innovative two thousand metre wide exhibition area. We also handled full stage design, production, build and AV.
To drive attendance and awareness, we developed a comprehensive social media plan alongside other promotion strategies for audience acquisition. This allowed us to exceed Vertica’s expectations by not only selling out the entire event and then increasing the total attendees allowed to accommodate extra demand.
Ultimately, the conference included a plenary session for 1,000 delegates, 38 breakout sessions, a partner exhibition zone with 27 sponsors and an interactive developers’ lounge: a significant increase in scale and ambition on the year before. Even with the increased attendee demand and last-minute changes to the scope we were able to ensure the event was a complete success, leading to a commission to create the next year’s Big Data conference as well, with the goal of growing it by a further 30%.
